#1 – First Entry

Ktool Journal - Entry 1Welcome to the Keys to Optimal Living – a website dedicated to sifting through and testing the abundance of information available on the topic of improving your life, career, and relationships.  I love to read, investigate, and apply what I learn into actionable habits or the new buzzword “life hacks”. Often I find myself reading or listening to a great new idea and think – yes, this could help me – only to forget it quickly and move on to the next book or podcast. This website is my journal into applying what I’m reading and learning – tweaking the information – and then giving you the results to save you time.

Great you might be thinking, but who is this guy? A good question and I’ll start by saying who I’m not. I’m not a life coach, I’m not peddling any book or product, and I’m also not a person with countless time on their hands to spend hours a day testing ideas. I’m a father with a toddler with another baby due in two weeks, a husband to a new mother (still learning just like me), and I’ve recently became self-employed (Real Estate Agent – commission only pay – ouch). Balancing all these responsibilities while becoming an entrepreneur sometimes makes life feel overwhelming, but my station is not unique. Sometimes I struggle to find even an hour for myself, I lost touch with many great friends, and I’ll be honest – money is tight. Many mornings after a sleepless night of being woken by a cry baby – I pull the pillow over my head and wonder – what have a got myself into!?!

Am I crazy for taking on this challenge as well? I don’t think so. I believe this is just what I need to grow and get the control of my life. I’ve had this website for a several years – here is my original about page – not much has changed in my life except new challenges added to it. It is almost two years since my last post. I’ve made a goal to create a website before and did nothing but find excuses. Life isn’t meant to be easy – or is this just a cliché I heard. I see many people doing great things and I don’t want to sit on the sidelines any longer and think why not me. So I’m going for it and you’re invited for the ride.

I talk about where I am because many sites or books of this kind are aimed at younger people who have the time to fully commit – what about all of us who can’t – do we not deserve to change? That’s why I want to study the information and let you know the best tips, so the precious available time you do have isn’t wasted on the wrong pursuits.

I do ask for a favor – I need you to hold me accountable. I need your encouragement to know these ideas are helpful and there is the need to keep them coming, so please let me know how I’m doing at either Facebook or Twitter. I will be introducing the challenges before I begin – this way we can do them together to keep each other on track. This journal section of the website is pretty rough, but it is meant as forum to discuss ideas. Once I test these ideas, the articles are polished up and posted on the “formal” portion of the site. So you get a personal behind-the-scenes look as the experiment moves forward in this journal section.

I encourage as much feedback as possible and I hope I can share some of your ideas and results in the final article.

I look forward to hearing from you!
